
The SA Maritime School and Transport College (SAMS) was founded in 1986 by Cdr PJK Fitt, a Master Mariner and veteran trainer of the shipping industry. In the early days SAMS occupied premises in Maydon Wharf in the proximity to the “Maydon Wharf Tea Room”, where many freight professional of today attended classed in Cargo Handling Logistics and Shipping.
In 1996 SAMS expanded to a school environment, borne from a vision of the implementation of the National Qualifications Framework in 1995. This lead to an increase in the number of related qualifications introduced by the now CEO Mr PSK Fitt. The Chairman joined the company and successfully aligned the courses on offer with the TETA. With the introduction of the National Qualifications Framework, SAMS has further been accredited with the Department of Education.
SAMS has a strong management team with the CEO Mr PSK Fitt and ably assisted by Director and Principal Mrs M Fitt. The Principal has twelve years of service with SAMS and runs a tight ship.
Mr AJK Fitt has joined the organization as General Manager and offers a strong administrative and accounting background to the office.
In 2011, SAMS has celebrated its 25th anniversary and with the years has progressed to now owning premises in the Point Waterfront, where it is able to provide a safe and conveniently situated campus which is conducive to a positive learning environment for the learners. The campus is situated just a stone throw away from the Durban Port entrance.
