> About The Captain

Skipper Ron Schwalbach, our sailing instructor, has been in the sailing industry for approximately twenty years. Having started sailing at the age of 14 in Holland, he has now accumulated over 250 000 miles.

After leaving school he joined the merchant navy, and upon returning to South Africa in 1988 became a part time instructor. It was during 1990 that he had the urge to go and explore the world by sea. This saw him participating in offshore racing and before he knew it he was skippering offshore races and had become a renowned skipper doing deliveries of vessels worldwide.

In May 2011 Ron joined the SA Maritime School and Transport College (SAMS) and has found his niche passing on his knowledge and experience to the younger generation, something which he finds immensely rewarding. He is a qualified instructor and a South African Sailing (SAS) examiner.

Under the watchful guidance of Ron, our approved SAS courses are intended to teach pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day, in tidal waters with which the student is familiar.

Together with the team at SAMS, Ron looks forward to meeting all aspiring sailors, whether these are beginners, experienced seaman or the pure adventure seeker.
